The Holborn Super Hero – Eco Thunder Kid

Run in partnership with Pan Intercultural Arts Trust and The October Gallery, The Holborn Super Heroes project engaged twenty young refugees from the Medical Foundation between the ages of 5 and 12 years old, including 15 adult volunteers from the October Gallery.

Focusing on the superhero theme, participants were encouraged to explore environmental issues through a series of multidisciplinary arts workshops, considering their local environment and looking at ways of caring for the environment through future aspirations. Each participant has written their future hopes and dreams which have all been embedded in the torso of the sculpture.

This is a life size figurine. The materials used are chicken wire, with a wooden inner structure. The recycled materials used are: plastic bags, bicycle inner tubes and bottle tops.

The sculpture was placed by the fountain in Russell Square Gardens Bloomsbury for 5 months and has now found its home in the Calthorpe Community Garden.-Holborn
