Cut it out

Coram’s Fields youth Centre and The October Gallery

A response to the government’s education cuts. In collaboration with October Gallery Education and Coram’s Fields Youth Centre, young people aged 13-25 respond to the dramatic coalition government cuts to the public sector through Cut It Out; an exhibition and series of live performances.

‘Cut it Out' confronted the political decisions that directly affect the lives of those too young to vote and challenged the stereotype of the ‘apathetic, apolitical teenager’ head on’.- Beth Atkinsons

The project culminated in a multi-media performance event

I worked in collaboration with the artists and ‘Sporadix’ dance crew to create shields made from recycled aluminium sheeting riveted together and outfits designed and hand sprayed on a theme of bullet proof vests. The themes for these outfits came out of the group’s deep sense of isolation and a feeling that they were in for a fight.
